Asking for Help When Baby Arrives…Do You or Don’t You?

Hello, BABY! And hello, everyone else! We’re just warning you that you may feel like an exhibit on display at the zoo. ‘Come one, come all! See this new family trying to adjust to infant! Guaranteed to be a spectacle! The magic passcode to get in is “Do you need help?”‘

Yep! That’s the question. Do you need help? Do you REALLY need help? Oh, mamas! This is the self-inventory that you may not want to look at! But we love you, and we know you can do it!

First off, recognize that you are strong and capable! Things (and you) will never be perfect, but you need to keep working at them, even though they are hard and at times, awkward. Nothing worth having comes easy…and that includes being a mom! So don’t give up! Don’t throw in the towel too early!

Second, your spouse is there to be a teammate with you raising this child! So go to him first when asking for help! If you always run to your mom, bypassing him, you will make him feel inadequate as a parent, which will haunt you later on.

Third, your extended family and friends are there to offer support and love, but careful not to let them rescue you, when you truly don’t need rescuing. It’s a fine line to walk, but you’ll get better at it!

Join Erin (a mama of twins) and Rebecca (a mama of two) as they talk through this fine line. A very fine line that can make or break your parenting!
