Kindred spirits…like Monica and Rachel (from Friends), or Meredith Grey and Christina Yang (Grey’s Anatomy), or even Diana Berry and Anne Shirley (from Anne of Green Gables…yes, we just showed our nerdy side)…are rare and so hard to come by. So, why chase the “impossible” dream of having a friend who will “totally get you”? Because it’s so worth it!
In a world where friendships tend to lie quite shallow and on the surface, it’s rare that we find people who will hold our hearts and minds (the good and the bad) with importance, love, and care. And when you find yourself pregnant, expecting, and maybe even ahead (or behind) of the pregnancy curve of the rest of your pre-pregnancy friends, it can be so isolating! Especially if it’s your first baby…and maybe even more so if you are working and then planning to stay-at-home with the baby. I know this was daunting for me (Rebecca), and that’s putting it nicely. Truthfully, calling it pure panic is probably more realistic.
Now that you find yourself approaching this new life stage, how on earth do you discover those other mommies who so desperately want the same friendship that you do? How do you put yourself out there without getting hurt? (PS…the short answer is you’re not.) And how do you “date” potential friends?
